No, not that kind of pick-up artist.
Here at the Northern Virginia Dog Blog, we’ve been emphasizing a different kind of pick-up: the kind that occurs when you clean up your dog's poop. However, we’ve neglected to acknowledge that sometimes those poopy pick-ups can be problematic. We ourselves have experienced the unpleasant consequences of having our large dog decide to drag us to meet a passing stranger at the same time we’re attempting to bag that dog’s deposits. To avoid such doo-doo disasters, here are some tips for making poop pick-up hassle free.
Check the bag. Before venturing out with your dog, check the bag you’re using to make sure there are no holes in the bottom. Few things are more frustrating than bagging your dog’s poop only to see that poop fall out of the bag immediately afterward. If you do find holes, just tie a knot above them. The bag will be shorter, but should still be large enough to hold whatever contents your dog produces.
Take an extra. Doggie downloading schedules are not always predictable. All too often, a dog will make an additional deposit after you have used the one-and-only bag you brought along. To forestall being caught without a bag, always bring along at least one more bag than you think you’ll need.
Have him sit. If your dog tends to become active while you’re picking up his poop, ask him to sit before you begin your pick-up maneuver.
